Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle hands-on technique using a light touch to examine and focus on the inward and outward movements or flow of the body's internal fluids. Osteopathic physician William Sutherland noticed this flow and called it the "Breath of Life". Sutherland believed that the body possesses an ability to heal itself that is inherent. BCST honors and allows the clients system to take lead with how the treatment unfolds.
BCST offers benefits to almost everyone. By calming the nervous system, quieting the mind and relaxing the body, the body is able to let go of old holding patterns of stress and trauma that have a negative impact on health; allowing for the integration of the mind, body and spirit, thereby improving functioning of the system, which can soothe pain, and reduce stress and tension. While some benefits can be felt in as little as one session, multiple sessions can help with chronic pain, stress, anxiety, injuries and much more.
You remain fully clothed throughout your session.
After a thorough consultation, where you and the therapist will discuss your health history and develop a plan for your session, you be made comfortable on the table. Blankets and propping's are used as necessary to help achieve this.
Good communication and comfort are keys to beneficial sessions. Before the therapist asks permission to make contact, they will make sure you are comfortable and feel safe. Next they will settle into their own body, becoming very mindful of their own fluid body through a set of protocols and finally guide you through techniques to help with your relaxation and aid you in becoming more present and aware of your own body.
Once both the client and therapist are ready, the therapist will ask permission to make contact.
Therapists may use various areas around your body, at the head, feet or sides, as a starting point to make contact. While using a light touch the therapist will gently hold different areas around you body in order to listen to it.
The length of sessions can vary from 30 to 45 minutes and will include times of both talking and silence as your body settles into itself and begins to unwind.
Your comfort level is accessed throughout and at ALL times, you are in control of the session.
During the session most people feel extremely relaxed and sometimes fall asleep or feel as if they were in a dreamlike state. Some report feeling pulsations, warmth, or like they are floating on water.
Afterwards it is common to feel relaxed and at peace.
